Selective pruning and rejuvenation pruning are some of the best things you can do for your shrubs. Selective pruning thins out the shrub by cutting back the branches. Rejuvenation pruning cuts the whole shrub to a height of 4–10 inches. Dogwood, spirea, potentilla, honeysuckle, hydrangea, lilac, forsythia and weigela respond very well to rejuvenation pruning. Both these types of pruning allow the sun to penetrate the center of shrub, and new growth replaces the branches that have been removed.
